Product Types Configuration

All of your products in Mealsite are organized by types. Product Types are entrees, sides, beverages, snacks, and other collections of products defined by you. The product type properties define several important features for your product offerings.

  1. A Title for the product type, which is visible in management interfaces.
  2. User interface elements for the product listings and reports.
  3. The maximum number of selections permitted per order.

How Do Product Types Work?

A product type is an organizational group on the order form, much like the headings on a restaurant menu.

A product type defines up to 100 Product Templates, which ultimately become products for sale.

A product type defines purchasing rules.

A product type only appears to the customer if it is associated with the selected Menu and only on the days that menu has products available to purchase.

Sales Method

A product type has multiple sales methods to choose from. This determines how Mealsite offers the product and if it is a single purchase or a bulk purchase from the customer perspective.

Daily

Daily sales are individual products that are delivered on a specific day.

On the frontend, these product types appear on specific days that have products for sale. On the backend, these product types appear for every day of the calendar so you may define the products for sale.

Monthly

Monthly sales are bulk products purchased one time and delivered on multiple serving days throughout the month.

On the frontend, these product types appear across the top of the ordering calendar above the dates. On the backend, these product types appear above every calendar month so you may define the products for sale.

Pricing

A product type defines suggested pricing for the Regular, Reduced, and FREE price levels, which reduces setup time when most or all of the related products have the same price. The Reduced and FREE price levels may be completely disabled for an entire product type. Customers on those price levels will be offered Regular pricing instead.

Purchase Rules

Reduced/Free Related

Reduced and Free price levels are limited to one purchase per day per product type. If a product type is considered equivalent to another product type for the purpose of limiting daily Reduced or Free purchases, then a product type may be associated with other types so Mealsite correctly enforces this restriction. Once a choice has been made for any related product types, the customer will receive Regular pricing for any additional related choices for that day.

Require Other Purchase

If this product type should only be offered with a related purchase for the same day on the same order, then indicate the other required product types. A single choice from the selected product types will satisfy this requirement. For example, if you offer a free side item with every entree purchase, you may use this feature to prevent checkouts for the free item without the paid item on the order.
